A Custom Cuff

This is a custom cuff I started for my sister last week.

She wanted it to be symbolic of a few different ideas/concepts near and dear to her heart and narrowed it down to the following symbols: a Celtic knot, a willow tree, the sky and a maple leaf.

The cuff is two inches wide. Hand-carved, tooled and painted.

To the left, the finished cuff in action. To the left, all the colours used in its production!

MaCaw!

The cuff I worked on last week – a raven’s feather for the Yukon.

I did the background in a faded shade of purple. This was an experiment in not making everything as though I were going to keep it for myself.

My preference would have been a brown background and brass snaps, but I thought people might prefer black with silver, which doesn’t (according to traditional mixing and matching of hides and hardware) really go with brown.

Sized for an 8.5 inch wrist and heading into the shop in the next couple minutes.

Labouring

Just a heads-up. If you are someone who comes here regularly, next week might be a little slow as the Supercrawl Curatorial Committee (which I am a part of) exhausts itself with last-minute prep and installations for what is sure to be an amazing event next Saturday, September 10th.

I’ll update with what I can because I do have a few custom orders on the table, but we’ll have to see how it goes. I already feel cra-cra-crazy!

In the meantime, check out my final studio decoration while I take a breath.

Hanging over the as-yet-to-be-framed door is a set of antlers from The New Woodsman. Don’t worry – they’re vegan (ummm…not that it matters, what with my studio full of leather and my enrollment in a hunter’s education/firearms licensing course at the end of September) and made of coloured resin mounted on a felt-fronted wood plaque.

Beautiful!

So. In addition to hanging those guys yesterday, I also finished my Newfoundland Pitcher Plant Cuff.

And I busted off a couple thinner Faux the Bois Cuffs for more delicate wrists – these ones only 1 1/4 inches wide.

If you’re itching to get your hands on any of this new wood-inspired leather, I’m dropping off a pile of chips (as in wood) and feathers at White Elephant – hopefully this afternoon.

Enjoy the long weekend and don’t forget to clear your schedule for Supercrawl next weekend.

The Buzz

I had to shuffle things around due to a last-minute addition of Shoot from the Hip/Hide & Cyc to this weekend’s Beehive Summer Craft Fair, so you’re getting a sneak peek at some new leather designs now instead of next week.

This Friday night during Art Crawl and all day Saturday, I will be joining an all-star roster of crafters at the Old Friendship Shop on James North near Wilson.

The goods are so good, I have already mentally allocated any profit I may make to fellow featured artists including Sartoria.

Beside sales on new-old stock, I’m bringing some new-new stock including the below Hoser Cuff, the Faux the Bois Cuff (though it also works faux the ladies) and the Western Belle Cuff.

See you there!
